The overall goal of the project is to motivate and empower civil society organizations (CSOs) and the public so that they will contribute effectively to achieve Georgia’s full compliance with the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) Article 8 “Protection from Exposure to Tobacco Smoke“ in creating 100% smoke-free public places.
This project intends to:
- Raise public and CSOs’ awareness about the harmful health effects of secondhand smoke and poor compliance with FCTC Article 8 in Georgia;
- Eempower Georgian CSOs and the public to support and enforce tobacco control laws;
- Connect CSOs and the public directly with decision-makers in taking actions to protect people from deadly tobacco smoke exposure.
As a result of this project, all efforts undertaken by various NGOs and the Government will be integrated and the smoke-free measures will become more enforceable. All these factors should improve the health indicators of the Georgian population and reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases.
